WHEN YOU DON'T HESITATE _Miru Group

Miru Group is the Amsterdam-based quintet of Korean saxophonist and composer Miru Han. The band carries leader's name for a simple reason: it marks the beginning of a first chapter. With saxophone, piano, guitar, bass and drums, the group draws on years of study in the jazz tradition and the open, contemporary harmony of the European scene. Beneath it all runs an emotional depth rooted in Korea: "HAN", a deep and unspoken ache that gives the music its weight and its honesty.

Pieces along this project, by Miru Han begin in small, everyday Amsterdam moments. WHEN YOU DON'T HESITATE was written in Vondelpark, on a day full of doubt about music and about life. A dog was chasing its owner's ball, leaping straight into the water and mud. It was soaked, filthy and completely happy, thinking of nothing but the next throw. The lesson was simple: we spend too much of our lives hesitating, and good things happen when we move. Musically, the band's two harmonic voices, piano and guitar, create a wide palette of colour, while bass and drums keep the music grounded and alive. At the centre is Miru's lyrical, singing saxophone, a sound that draws beautiful melodies.

In March 2026, Miru was accepted into Manhattan School of Music's jazz master's program with an 80% scholarship, and chose to stay in Amsterdam, betting on the European scene and the music growing here. That choice says something about what Miru Group brings: a new generation of musicians from beyond Europe who are not visiting the jazz tradition, but helping to shape it. Contemporary jazz can feel out of reach for new listeners. Miru Group speaks the same modern language, yet reaches people directly, opening the door for audiences who never thought this music was for them. And in an anxious, overthinking age, its central idea is quietly radical: stop hesitating, and let good things happen.

The concert  like a fire on a cool autumn evening: intense, intimate and cathartic, with an ensemble that breathes as one. Every performance is an invitation to listen closely, feel deeply and act without fear. Audiences leave energised, moved, and a little braver than when they arrived. Miru Group is now preparing its debut release. This is the first chapter. Now is the moment to hear it.

Miru Han is a saxophonist and composer from South Korea. Before moving to the Netherlands, he arranged and performed K-pop in a Navy band and built a solid career in the jazz scene, including performances at the Jecheon International Music & Film Festival. After completing his military service in 2021, he defined a solid conviction in jazz when he had jazz workshop in Berlin, which became a motivation made his mind to move to Europe.

His Father was a vocal coach and local singer and he is still singing actively. Miru learned singing, guitar, drums, and piano from his father from age of 9. Miru inherited a gift-like, intuitive talent for recognizing great melodies.

Starting the saxophone at the relatively late age of 15, he has continually work on with his saxophone career. Following 1st place at the "CBS Applied Music Competition" and the Grand Prize at the "2017 Kyung Hyang Music Competition". He subsequently won the Top Prize at the "Busan Jazz Rookie Contest" and the Grand Prize in the General Division at the "2023 Kyung Hyang Music Competition".

In 2026, he received his bachelor degree from the Amsterdam Conservatory and was admitted to the Amsterdam Conservatorium again and Manhattan School of Music graduate program in New York with a $50,000 annual scholarship for his Master study program. While he decided to continue his studies in Amsterdam conservatory, he was selected as a CJ Cultural Foundation scholarship recipient for overseas music graduate studies, receiving an annual support grant of $10,000 as he continues his studies.

Constantly exploring and experimenting with the beauty of sound and the value of music, Miru Han is now set to release his debut album as a leader with the Miru Group. His compositions form a unique mosaic combining the distinct Korean emotional depth of 'Han,' the European avant-garde flair of his current home, and the American traditionalism that has been with him since he first started jazz. As he captures the very essence he has long pursued into this unprecedented album, please stay tuned for what is to come.
